Toronto’s Metrolinx begins testing Eglinton Crosstown light-rail vehicles
Metrolinx has begun testing the first six Eglinton Crosstown light-rail vehicles (LRVs) along surface level tracks in Toronto’s east end. Tests involve coupled LRVs and analyze speed, brake, and concurrent vehicle performance. Preliminary tests, including communications systems and signals, have been ongoing since the spring. The Eglinton Crosstown line will serve 25 stations along a 12 mi (19 km) route over half of which will be underground. It will link to three Toronto subway stations and GO Transit lines. The line, which parallels Eglinton Avenue, will open in 2022. [progressiverailroading.com]

The first two 100% H2 iLint trains entered service in Germany in 2018 and have already covered more than 100,000 km (over 60,000 mi). To date, 41 trainsets have been ordered in Germany, and successful trials have taken place in Austria and the Netherlands. Italian operator FNM ordered 14 H2 trains at the end of 2020.
