Late night subway service returns to San Francisco in October
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will restore late night subway service beginning Oct. 2. On Monday through Saturday, the last eastbound Muni Metro train will depart daily at 11:50 p.m. and last westbound train at 12:00 a.m. Sunday night service will run until approximately 10:00 p.m. Since May 2021, service has ended at 9:00 p.m. daily, allowing more time for pandemic-related maintenance procedures. Extending subway service will enable late-night connections to Bay Area Rapid Transit, while maintaining enhanced maintenance. [masstransitmag.com]

Amtrak chief promotes 2nd Pittsburgh-Harrisburg service
Amtrak remains committed to adding a second daily train between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, according to Amtrak president Stephen Gardner. Making that expanded service a reality, however, depends on negotiations with Norfolk Southern and securing state and federal money. Existing Pennsylvanian service leaves Pittsburgh for Harrisburg at 7 a.m. and returns about 8 p.m. In adding an extra train between the Steel City and the state capital, Amtrak is proposing to run one of those round-trip trains to Cleveland.
