Texas county supports increased Amtrak Sunset Limited frequency
Bexar County Commissioners have voted to bring daily Amtrak Sunset Limited service to San Antonio’s downtown Sunset Station. Currently, the route connecting El Paso, Alpine, Sanderson, Del Rio, San Antonio, Houston and Beaumont, is served by three trains a week. Any expansion must wait for Congress to re-authorize funding next year. [kens5.com]

UK’s first 3D printed parts trialed on passenger trains

For the first time, 3D printed armrests and grab handles are being tested on passenger trains operated by Britain’s Chiltern Railways. Passenger train operators hope that 3D printing will help accelerate the replacement of obsolete parts, enabling them to get vehicles back into service quicker and to better maintain their trains. Australia: NSW chooses bi-mode option for regional train replacement
The New South Wales (NSW) state government has ordered bi-mode trains to replace NSW Trains’ existing regional passenger fleet. The 29 new diesel-electric multiple units will switch from diesel to overhead lines along electrified rail segments. Some $2m AUD ($1.35m) in annual savings on diesel fuel costs is anticipated.
