A quick escape to Florida doesn't have to take forever. I-95's endless tedium and traffic doesn't have to be your gateway to the Sunshine State. With Amtrak Auto Train there's an easier way... a family friendly way that makes getting to FLA USA half the fun! So set aside your trepidations and drive on board. Park, and enjoy the ride... from tasty home style cooking and activities to keep the kids happy... to a full bar and a good night's sleep in a real bed! Arrive refreshed and lickity split... drive to Orlando, Tampa, Miami or the Keys in time to catch a few rays!
North America’s only Auto Train carries 370 vehicles some 900 miles between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida, taking thousands of cars off the road a year. Driving can easily take 20+ hours factoring in hotel, food, and traffic. Amtrak’s Auto Train keeps you moving whether you’re dining, sleeping, or just enjoying the view. Unlike air travel, you avoid drawn-out baggage checks, security screening, and cramped seating — and there's no need to rent a car at your destination. Thanks to half-priced kids’ fares, it’s hard to find a better way to travel up or down the East Coast.
Amtrak Auto Train passengers get spacious reclining seats with 120v outlets for personal electric devices. For added comfort, bedrooms can be booked for up to four people — some with showers. Each evening, expertly prepared full-course meals are served in the dining car. Continental breakfast is offered the following morning. In addition, a CafÈ offering light meals, snacks and full bar service is on hand. The Lounge gives you a casual place to swap stories with other passengers, or enjoy the National Park Service’s travel commentary.
What can you take aboard the Auto Train? Acceptable vehicles include automobiles, vans, SUVs, trucks and motorcycles. Depending on the size, certain types of trailers can also be accommodated on a space available basis. Packing is easy because whatever luggage, equipment, or recreational gear fits in your vehicle goes on the trip. Bikes may be stowed on rear-mounted racks.
Within 30 minutes of the Nation’s Capital and Orlando's theme parks, both Amtrak Auto Train stations offer easy access to where you want to be. From the Lorton station, New York City, Boston, and the scenic Poconos are all within driving distance. The Sanford terminal is just moments from I-4, so you can get to Daytona Beach, Tampa, and St. Petersburg in no time.
High-demand Auto Train tickets should be booked as far in advance as possible, especially during peak seasons. Fortunately, Auto Train Ticketless Check-In simplifies booking. A new time-saving upgrade, Priority Vehicle Offloading, speeds up the boarding and de-training process. Otherwise, arrive at the station by late morning. Vehicles that are boarded first are offloaded sooner. Check in no later than 3 pm. Wheelchair access is also available.
Making your way up or down the East Coast can mean frustrating airport queues and delays or long hours of driving on I-95. Amtrak Auto Train carries your vehicle, offering a comfortable travel alternative, and convenient station access to popular locations. Amtrak's rail-and-drive is the safe, relaxing way to visit the Sunshine State. With the Auto Train, you’ll spend less time thinking about how to get there, and more time thinking about what to do when you arrive.
