Scenic and historic railroads across the USA are showing off their romantic sides this Valentine’s Day with special train rides for lovers only. And because February 14th falls on a Monday in 2022, love trains will be on track at many railroads all Valentine’s Weekend long!
A Valentine train ride aboard a scenic or historic railway is the stuff of romance. Step into a vintage carriage or Pullman coach and you are at once transported — even before your train leaves the station. For a short time, the rush of modern life seems to fade into the distance. And then, suddenly, as with the gentle jolt of a cupid’s arrow, your love train rolls out on a magical adventure.
No two Valentine’s train rides are alike. While many trains host white linen, multi-course dinners, prepared by onboard chefs… others track a slightly less formal route with elaborate presentations of fine chocolates and cheeses. Expect the unexpected… from live entertainment to bubbly toasts and complimentary roses.
This Valentine’s Day Weekend, there are plenty of opportunities across the USA to enjoy a romantic “dinner in the diner” and lavish multi-course dining experiences — many with distinctive extras — are the order of the day.
Aboard California’s Napa Wine Train and Connecticut’s Essex Clipper sweethearts are welcomed with a sparkling toast. The Blue Grass State’s My Old Kentucky Dinner Train treats sweethearts to a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner. And Pennsylvania’s New Hope Railroad treats Valentines to gifts, long stem roses, and drinks.
For Valentine’s weekend, Colorado’s Royal Gorge Route Railway delights guests with separate lunch and dinner menus. Aboard the Tennessee Valley Railroad, a circa 1924 dining car sets the tone for a romantic repast. Iowa’s Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad and Washington State’s Chehalis Centralia Railroad & Museum will both be welcoming sweethearts aboard Valentine’s Day Dinner Trains.
Murder mysteries bring a bit of intrigue to Valentine dinner train trips in Florida! The Seminole Gulf Railway Murder Mystery Dinner Train treats onboard diners to a live show while Florida Railroad Museum‘s Murder Mystery Dinner Train shuttles sweethearts to and from an off-train dinner and show.
Among USA railroads romancing the rails in 2022 several are truly one-of-a-kind and worth traveling the extra distance. In Arizona, the Verde Canyon Railroad‘s Chocolate Lovers’ Festival is a standout. The scenic railroad combines a free-flowing chocolate fountain and fudgy treats with its annual nesting season Eagle Watch! Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad gets ready for Valentine’s Day with a unique Truffle Making Train.
Valentine’s Day schedules vary. While some railroads will host events on Valentine’s Day, February 14th; some railroads have scheduled Valentine’s Weekend train rides on one or more days between Friday, February 11th and Monday, February 14th. Check with individual railroads for exact dates and times and remember that advance reservations are required or advisable in most instances.
