This retro Russian train takes people on actual Soviet nostalgia trips
Strange though it may sound to some Americans, nostalgia for the era of the Soviet Union runs deep in Russia, where as many as 75 percent of Russians miss the U.S.S.R., according to one recent survey. So train fanatics among them are no doubt delighted to learn that a part of the Soviet state survives on the rails along the Black Sea, where Russian Railways operates a tourist train with a historic, Soviet-era locomotive and rolling stock, complete with a classic livery and restored interiors. A virtual train ride on the LRT-1 captures why there is simply no place like Manila
Manila is a cultural hotspot, with heritage sites, world-class museums, must-try holes-in-the-walls and restaurants, and art galleries. That helps to explain why roads are always congested, and point A to point B travel in 10 to 30 minutes or less is rare. Luckily, there’s the LRT-1. Light Rail Transit (LRT), particularly line one, is among the most utilized in the public transport system of Metro Manila. Sure, the LRT may not be an Orient Express, but it is the fastest, most convenient way around town. And, a recently released train ride video spotlights the points of interest within the vicinity of the line one stations. [mb.com.ph]
